At Prairie Animal Hospital, we understand every pet is unique. We understand that because of this uniqueness, they require different vaccine programs. Illinois law requires certain vaccinations to protect pets against disease, but there may be other “core” vaccines we feel are essential for the health of your pet. Due to both types of vaccinations, pets are living longer, and healthier lives than ever before. These vaccines collectively have saved the lives of millions of pets over the years. In some cases, they have nearly eliminated diseases that at one time were fatal to pets.
Vaccines such as the Rabies vaccinations are essential to your dog’s health and are required by law in the state of Illinois. Other vaccines for Distemper, Parvo, Lyme disease and Leptospirosis may also be very important to keeping your pet in good health. Some vaccines may be suggested for social dogs that make regular visits to daycare or grooming facilities. This list includes vaccinations against Kennel Cough and Canine Influenza.
Cats are required to have the Rabies vaccination in the state of Illinois as well. Other vaccinations such as for Lyme disease and Distemper may be recommended. Unlike dogs, cats should be vaccinated with an upper respiratory complex also. Vaccinating against feline leukemia is recommended to cats exposed to the outdoors.
Other pets, some considered “exotic”, may require an even more specialized vaccination program. As we have mentioned, all pets are unique and it will be important to contact Prairie Animal Hospital to speak to one of our trained professionals to see what is recommended for your pet. Our professionals take into a account a variety of factors that could, and should, affect your pet’s vaccination requirements. Those factors will include your pet’s age, exposure to other animals, history, diet, and activity level.

This is by far the best animal hospital I have ever seen. I have two cats and they have been to many vet's before I took them here. Everyone here is very nice, and one of my cats, who is very jumpy around new things, sat calmly during her exam and didn't try jumping on everything in the room.
The staff is super welcoming! Dr. Rachel is also very personable, which makes everything feel more comfortable.
Dr. Kuhn and the rest of the PAH team are absolutely astounding. Had to have my cairn terrier boarded for a couple days on very short notice and they took amazing care of her. Would recommend to anyone.
SO impressed. The doctor and staff went out of their way to make my big dog (who has social issues) feel comfortable. They were caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, and prompt. I couldn't ask for better. We have to drive a bit to get to the facility, but it is well worth it. HIGHLY recommend!!
